The Thin Red Line
"this week maybe you'll have to go down to mama's house to help with the funeral... since you're having your break now"
and that was an hour after "lao3 ma4 may go anytime soon. she's on the respirator already and her heartbeat's weak". all it took was a trip out of the house for dinner to make the difference. i didn't expect it to be so fast but. well.
its a thin red line dont you think? between life and death. to cross the barrier. and whether it shows a waveform or a straight line.
great grandmother has gone to a place without tears or pain. just a glorified body, joy, joy, and more joy. its not goodbye, but see you soon.
i was never close to her, but a loss is still a loss. someone who once existed in your circle of life exists no longer, only in the mind. in the last few years, she could no longer recognize any of us. but it was pure joy to see her smile just because she was happy, no strings attached. to smile, to chat.
no sicknesses, no illnesses. just old age that took her physical body away, after living for an approximate 95 years. ashes will return to ashes. and dust to dust.
its not one that i'm terribly upset about, nor will i cry for nights. but i know it will be sad to see her photo, to see her again this week, for the last time.
21st september 2008.
