today i changed hamster's bedding. i enjoy playing with it just before i go to sleep. bonding with it can be fun, especially with all the fur, nice soft fur.
erm. pardon the primary school language. dont know why like that.
so i had to cage it in a foreign environment (to hamster) while i emptied the bedding and changed & wash the foodbowl + wheel + cage. and my goodness, hamster was so frantic like i was caging it up in hell, or like i was never going to bring it back to its haven! it kept running here and there, and for once i saw it do monkey bars across the metal cage! and it shitted like 4 pieces too. and it kept biting the grills. and all the while i was like, hamster hamster, i'm changing your bedding so you can sleep properly in the day, without smelling your own urine and having to live with all your dropped fur and pungsai. please be patient.
but it was just running and scurrying in a frenzy.
till it was time to go home, and i placed it back in the nice clean cage. it scurried all over inside, sniffing every single thing, checking out its clean fresh bedding, and finally settled on the wheel to sleep. what an exhausting experience, hamster must've thought.
and i was thinking, how many times in our lives we go scurrying around, pungsaiing and biting with all our might to get out of the cage, when the cage is just a harmless enclosure to keep us safe to make sure we dont accidentally end up in drains or get stomped upon? a place to wait till someone cleverer and bigger than us clears up our mess. very meaningful lesson i learnt. thank you hamster.
