something's been tugging on my heart, & comes to my mind at random times of the day.

i think only bp knows about this: i wanna financially support a less fortunate kid somewhere else in the world :)

last night i was flipping my bible and i caught sight of this
"defend the cause of the weak and fatherless;
maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed"
Psalm 82:3

i start work in half a year (i mean, if God bestows upon me a job). and the moment i start getting a salary, i think this will come to pass :) :) :)

i think of you,
and it makes me smile

so today, i was doing a 240-item survey on my character, for the positive psy module. for each question, i had to choose on a scale whether the descriptive statement was "like me" or "not like me". and then 3/4-way, there was this question that broke the rhythm at which i had been reading and selecting the answers.

"my family and close friends cannot do anything that would make me stop loving them."

i really stopped for awhile there, but surprised myself cos i realised i had chosen

"like me".

Scent may play an important role in the human mating game. Male volunteers smelled tee-shirts that had been worn by women during different stages of their menstrual cycles and provided saliva samples for testosterone analysis. Men who smelled shirts of ovulating women (i.e., at the peak of their fertility) had higher levels of testosterone than men who smelled shirts of non-ovulating women. This suggests that subtle olfactory cues of female ovulation can have specific biological effects in men--effects linked to courting and sexual behavior

-- Miller & Maner, (2010).

once in awhile, studies of this kind appear and we're like HUH but yes. i know you're like what the.... but please bear in mind that all psychology studies are tested rigorously using the scientific method.

:)

first day back at school. i'm taking 24MCs this sem, the most ever. in keeping with the tradition of announcing my mods, here goes.

1. cognitive neuroscience of communication
2. child abnormal psychology
3. advanced abnormal psychology
4. positive psychology
5. drugs & society

+ve psy is first-time offered in NUS & is a burgeoning field indeed. we had to do the "best possible self" exercise & i felt so happy after doing it. today's 6-9pm lect made me quite happy actually. but mod's super demanding. many readings, one essay per week, 1 thought question per week. gg.

adios.

"but sophie, love keeps no record of wrongs"...

on another topic, my heart goes out to the christians in malaysia who have been affected. and i wonder why we often think we're far away and safe, spared from any such happenings, in the present, or the future yet to come. maybe its because we think we're educated and religious tolerance is only natural because splashing paint and throwing fireballs are just not us. it just doesn't happen here.

maybe? maybe not? what's different between people who live like an hour across from home, and us? i guess jesus wasn't joking when He said "in this world you will have trouble".

"but take heart,
I have overcome the world. "

grace :)

GRACE, by laura story

My heart is so proud. My mind is so unfocused.
I see the things You do through me as great things I have done.
And now You gently break me, then lovingly You take me
and hold me as my Father and mold me as my Maker.

I ask you: "How many times will you pick me up, when I keep on letting you down?
And each time I will fall short of Your glory, how far will forgiveness abound?"
And You answer: " My child, I love you.
And as long as you're seeking My face, You'll walk in the power of My daily sufficient grace."

At times I may grow weak and feel a bit discouraged
knowing that someone, somewhere could do a better job.
For who am I to serve You? I know I don't deserve You.
And that's the part that burns in my heart and keeps me hanging on.

You are so patient with me, Lord.

As I walk with You, I'm learning what Your grace really means.
The price that I could never pay was paid at Calvary.
So, instead of trying to repay You, I'm learning to simply obey You
by giving up my life to you
For all that You've given to me.

happy new year, God :) this song's for You. thank You for everything that happened in 2009, and most recently, for showing me that You're the God of the impossible. thank You for every blessing that You've so graciously given me even though i'm hardly deserving of any. this is for You, & may 2010 see us having another exciting journey together! i love You :)

"Can it be done"
my heart wondered
it was far too big
for me

You called me once
but i faltered.
You tugged at my heart
said You wanted, to set me apart

As i finally faced the waves
You calmed the storm in me
As i took this step of faith
You were all i wanted to see

And now i stand in awesome wonder
at Your mighty hand, O Lord
My Saviour and my King
with You, i lack nothing

And as i look to You, i know
Your faithfulness knows no end
I am held in awesome wonder
For You hold
impossible in Your hand

:')
